Venue, Weather & Ice conditions

Update #4 // Change of Venue | 2015-01-09

Lake Runn, Borlänge has reportedly recovered a lot better than lake Storsjön from the snowfall we had a couple of days ago and apparently has a smooth hard surface without any snowdrifts. Hence we've decided to change the venue to it.

Launching site will be in Storsund a couple of km east of Borlänge town center, see map.
Accomodation available at hotel 'Active Stay' in Borlänge, see more info below.

Update #3 | 2015-01-08

Accomodation offer at Scandic CH in Gävle, see more info below.

Update #2 The Race is on | 2015-01-07

Good news! Lake Storsjön close to Sandviken wasn't hit too bad by last night's snowfall which swept across a large part of the country, see picture by Patrik Stenberg below.
We've therefore decided  to make it our venue for the weekends regatta (and also the Vaiko Clinic prior to it).

Launching site will be on the northwestern shore at the end of Korsikavägen in Kungsgården.

We are working on accomodation deals, stay tuned for more info soon!

Update #1  | 2015-01-05

The past week has been incredible from ice aficionados perspective; many places with thick shiny black ice combined with sunny skies and good breeze. We have a couple of venue options for the upcoming regatta this weekend; lake Storsjön in Sandviken, lake Runn in Falun and lake Mälaren in Västerås. All of which have near perfect black ice.

However... there is some bad weather with 5-7 mm percipitation forecasted to hit all of those spots during the night between Tuesday and Wednesday.

Stay tuned for more updates soon!

Hotel 'Active Stay' in Borlänge offers all competitors lodging at a dicounted price. Use offer code "iceboat race" when booking via email or phone.

One of them "Nora", the largest ice yacht in Sweden can carry 8 people and weighs more than a metric ton.

In competitive sailing it's all about the DN and Monotype XV. Home venue is the bay 'Stora Värtan' in the inner Stockholm archipelago 10 km north of central Stockholm.
